To analyze sentences for nouns
To analyze expository writing
To implement writing techniques

BELLRINGER
Students were given a worksheet.
They identified verbs, their functions, and the nouns of the first 3 sentences.

AGENDA
Time given for students to read their book report novels and fill out reading logs
PowerPoint on expository writing
Students will fill in worksheet and participate in group activities
Time given in class for reading logs and book report books.

To create a driving central question, thesis, and rough outline

BELLRINGER
W: You are a political prisoner and will be jailed for the rest of your life. You can choose which prison you want: a zoo, a museum, or a library. Which will you choose and why?
TH: If you could have any 3 people over for coffee/tea/chocolate/etc., whom would it be? What would you discuss? What mug would you give them?
F: If you had to wear one t-shirt for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?

AGENDA
Handouts: research outline and thesis overview
Analyze and discuss how to research, including creating a driving central question, thesis, and rough outline
Students will apply research skills through beginning the creation of their research paper

To construct lesson activators in groups which explicate each group’s short story

Students wrote down 3 sentences.
They identified the verbs, their functions, and the nouns.

AGENDA
Class analyzed the sentences.
Students took turns coming to the board to identify verbs, nouns, and functions.
Class discussion of their Caring for the Kenai project and how their English class is involved.
