OBJECTIVES:
To analyze satire in literature
To distinguish what is directly stated from what is really meant
To determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in the text
To cite strong and thorough textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly

5 minute quickwrite:
There are no school holidays in February.
Use persuasive strategies to convince the school board that President’s Day (Feb. 17th) should be a school holiday. Possible ideas: Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is a school holiday. In Canada, February 17th is “Family Day.”
