To research Greek theater
To appreciate the culture and literature of Greek theater
To instruct what is learned to others

BELLRINGER:
Correct an incorrect paragraph

AGENDA:
Are you Greek hero material?
Jigsaw activity: in pods, students will read about Greek theatre and plays
They will teach the rest of the class what they have learned

HOMEWORK:

(Those reading their own story)
Be working on your journal reflections as you read.
Remember: 5 different types of reflections for each of your 15 journal entries.
Be sure to include vocabulary, literary devices, essay questions, and any of the other items under “Identify.” Due October 16 at the start of class. No exceptions! 125 points

How do stories & essays compare/contrast?
Write down 3 events in your pod
Setting/characters (top bun)

Review legend and campfire story
Use plot analysis chart to begin overview of tricky story

To read and analyze Beowulf
To create a monster/Grendel text graphic
To note literary devices and religious elements in Beowulf
To practice working in pods towards a common goal

BELLRINGER:
Quickwrite: Discuss the theme of “loyalty” in Beowulf. How important is loyalty? Is there a time it should be broken? Upheld? Explain. (Thursday)
Quickwrite: What does an effective leader do? What separates a leader from “a beaten warrior”? Explain. Use Examples. (Friday)

AGENDA:
Finish reading and analyzing Beowulf, creating a monster text graphic (10 pts)

HOMEWORK:

Cell Messages (book report project) due at the BEGINNING of class 10/8/13 (32 pts)
NO EXCEPTIONS!
Remember: imagine these cell messages are following the story plot outline. What 7 events of rising action, climax, and falling action should you note?

To maintain composure in front of an audience
To review the Hebrew stories & myths that have informed Western literature
To preview Greek/Roman literature through gods sheet

BELLRINGER:
Poorly written paragraph to be re-written using a variety of sentence openers and lengths.

AGENDA:
Use the little theatre for story presentations
Present stories in chronological order to aid in a concise historical overview of the Hebrew culture
Students listen to each other’s presentations
Gods handouts for students to research and fill in
